Preparing for the International Roadcheck 2024: RoadLink Recruiters' Essential Insights.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) International Roadcheck is on the horizon, scheduled for May 14-16, 2024. This annual event is a pivotal moment for commercial motor vehicle inspection and regulatory compliance enforcement across North America.

CVSA-certified law enforcement personnel will be out in full force, conducting inspections at weigh/inspection stations, temporary sites, and mobile patrols. The goal? To ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, or territorial regulations.

This year, CVSA is placing special emphasis on two critical areas: tractor protection systems and alcohol and controlled substance possession. With an increasing number of prohibited drivers listed in the U.S. Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse, addressing substance use in the workplace is more vital than ever.

Tractor protection systems, often overlooked during inspections, are under the spotlight too. CVSA aims to increase awareness of these crucial vehicle components and has provided an inspection bulletin outlining proper checking procedures.

During the three-day event, inspectors will conduct North American Standard Level I Inspections, a thorough 37-step procedure examining vehicle components and driver documentation. Vehicles that pass without critical violations may receive a coveted CVSA decal, valid for three months.

But what if violations are found? Vehicles with out-of-service violations will be restricted from operating until all issues are addressed. Drivers face scrutiny too, with checks on operating credentials, hours-of-service documentation, and substance impairment.

For those curious about the criteria behind out-of-service determinations, CVSA has just released its 2024 North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria handbook. Packed with real-life violation photos, this resource is essential for safety enforcement personnel, carriers, and drivers alike.

CVSA's commitment to safety doesn't end with Roadcheck. They offer an array of resources to educate and inform on compliance and enforcement, including handy cheat sheets for both vehicle and driver inspections.

As the 2024 Roadcheck approaches, it's crucial for carriers and drivers to prioritize safety and compliance. By staying informed and proactive, we can ensure the safety of all road users and uphold industry standards.
